Thursday 3rd September - walk ***** – Bawdsey – sunny periods and
breezy.
I had a have a blood test at Felixstowe General at 8.30 so after I had a
quick drive down to Felixstowe Ferry to take a few pics to send to the tv
weather and at this point it was fairly miserable, cloudy and windy but
when I saw the ferry head to the jetty it sowed the seed of an idea
thinking it would be nice to take Arlo for a boat ride over the Deben! So
home for yet more pancakes and with our son Rob having a day off Arlo
wanted to take his Dad for a bike ride to Landguard Nature Reserve like we
did yesterday but I suggested we go to the Ferry first and then do the bike
ride in the afternoon! This was agreed and I set about making a picnic
lunch setting off around 11.30 and parking at the small chapel before
heading to Millenium Green to do a bit of Geocaching, in fact we found
several around Felixstowe during their visit! We took Arlo to see the
famous hippos in the mud before walking through the boatyard to the ferry
with the weather now improved, still pretty breezy but the sun has made an
appearance! The short ferry ride is always fun and we walk along the Quay
beach for more geocaching in the carpark before heading to the seafront
beach past the large Bawdsey Manor and find a nice spot on the beach
slightly sheltered from the wind which is good as the sand is blowing along
the beach to enjoy the picnic, I was thinking what a great spot this is for
windsurfing with the wind in the west. It is lovely and remote here and we
had the whole beach to ourselves, just wonderful! We had a walk further
along the beach but sadly the footpath has been eroded away and you can
only get through when the tide is low! We walk back to the River Deben
where it is pretty wild with yachts struggling to make against the tide!
Back at the jetty Arlo waves the white bat to call the ferry over and
return home to have a short break!
Bike **** - Landguard Nature Reserve with Arlo and Rob.
Then at four Rob, Arlo and me head down to Landguard Nature Reserve with
more Geocaching and were lucky enough to see a large container ship head in
before doing loads of bumps on the bikes on the way home now officially
knackered as it’s been pretty full-on so far this week and we still have
two more days of the visit to go!
